Home Affairs launches campaign to unblock identity numbers for South Africans.

The Department of Home Affairs has launched a nationwide campaign to assist South Africans whose identity numbers were blocked prior to November 2022, as more than 2.2 million IDs have already been restored through ongoing verification processes.

The department announced on Monday that affected individuals are being called upon to submit representations under Section 3 of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA), explaining why their identity numbers should be unblocked.

“The Department is committed to ensuring that all affected individuals are afforded a fair opportunity to present their case,” Home Affairs said.

Individuals whose identity numbers are blocked must visit any Home Affairs office, excluding refugee reception centres and banks, to make written and oral submissions before the deadline of 10 July 2026.
