Former All Blacks player Lima Sopoaga spent time in Cape Town during his stay in South Africa.

Former All Blacks player Lima Sopoaga came to South Africa for rugby, but his food journey took him from a Cape Town gatsby to a Soweto kota, with plenty of local flavour in between.

Sopoaga, who was in the country for Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry, made the most of his time away from the rugby field, seeking out everyday food experiences that give South African cities their character.

In Cape Town, he headed to Athlone’s Golden Dish to try a masala steak gatsby, while in Johannesburg he made his way to Soweto for a kota after hearing about the history behind the popular sandwich.

The food adventures were part of a wider experience that appeared to leave a lasting impression on the former All Black.
