The Eiffel Tower has reopened after staff walked out over the removal of female colleagues during a visit by a Hindu group.
The Eiffel Tower reopened Tuesday, an AFP reporter said, after staff walked out over the removal of women colleagues during a visit by a Hindu religious group that later apologised.
Shortly before 9:30 am on Tuesday, visitors were passing through security checkpoints at the foot of the tower, the AFP journalist said. On its website, the Eiffel Tower said the iconic monument was "open today".
The operating company that runs the Paris landmark, SETE, acknowledged that the Hindu delegation had requested the visit be organised so as to limit "interactions with women" and said that "these conditions should not have been accepted".
It said the landmark was due to reopen on Tuesday following a meeting the previous day between staff and management.
