By the time she died last week at the age of 92, Gloria Steinem had become almost synonymous with the modern feminist movement in the US.The arc of Steinem’s life – and activism – was a long one. From going undercover as a Playboy bunny to becoming a radical publisher bringing feminism into the mainstream. She was a fearless reproductive rights campaigner. In Ms Magazine she wrote about having an abortion – and encouraged other famous women, and readers, to do the same to break the stigma around it.Stateside host Carter Sherman tells Annie Kelly that Steinem’s legacy as an icon is secure – but that, at the time she died, many of the rights she fought so hard for are under attack. “Obviously, Roe v Wade was overturned in 2022.
