The University of Oxford has selected Fatima Kyari, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), as the 2026 Aig-Imoukhuede Visiting Fellow.
The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation announced Kyari’s selection in a statement on Monday, saying she will undertake the six-month fellowship at Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government beginning in September 2026.
The fellowship, delivered in partnership with the Blavatnik School of Government, is designed to support exceptional public-sector leaders in examining critical policy challenges and developing practical solutions to improve the effectiveness of public institutions.
Kyari’s selection comes as Nigeria faces persistent challenges in its healthcare system, including shortages of skilled health professionals, migration of doctors and other healthcare workers, gaps in medical education capacity and the need to strengthen professional regulation.
The Foundation said her fellowship research would examine how Nigeria could expand medical education as a strategic public-sector reform while maintaining quality, strengthening health workforce capacity and responding to changing conditions in the healthcare labour market.
