Proteas fans will have to wait until after the Australia ODI series to see Anrich Nortje charging in for the national team.

Proteas coach Shukri Conrad has kept the door open for Anrich Nortje’s return to the ODI team, despite the fast bowler’s absence from the 16-player squad set to face Australia at the end of the month.

With pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada ruled out of the ODI series due to a hamstring injury, Conrad would have been on the hunt for an injection of pace to face the Aussies.

Ironically, Nortje’s last ODI series was against the Aussies all the way back in 2023, although the fast bowler was part of the Proteas’ squad at the T20 World Cup in India earlier this year.

The 32-year-old ‘Uitenhage Express’ is currently playing for the Rotterdam Dockers in the ETPL, where he recently claimed his first T20 five-for, but Conrad feels the seamer still needs to get more miles in his legs before returning to the Proteas ODI squad.
