Dewald Brevis will feature in this week's ODI series against Namibia.
Dewald Brevis will get his chance to compete for a place in the Proteas’ squad for next year’s ODI World Cup, according to coach Shukri Conrad.
Brevis, 23, finished as the joint leading run-scorer in the recently concluded T20I tri-series in Windhoek, but it was not enough to earn a place in a virtually full-strength Proteas ODI squad to face Australia in the upcoming three-match series.
The young prodigy has only played nine ODIs, registering just one half-century in the process, and averages a meagre 28.75. He will, however, feature in the three ODIs against Namibia in Windhoek this coming week, where he will look to improve on his record in the longer white-ball format.
The Proteas ODI middle-order slots are currently filled by veteran David Miller, Tristan Stubbs and Matthew Breetzke, who average 43.20, 30.15 and 64.18 respectively.
