The trade war between the United States and Canada has entered a new chapter — and it’s getting uglier by the hour.
Early Tuesday morning, Canada made good on its promise to impose tariffs on $20 billion worth of American goods in retaliation for the Canadian goods President Donald Trump began taxing last month.
Less than 24 hours after those levies went into effect, Trump unveiled his next move to exert more pressure on Ottawa.
Now, tariffs are no longer the only weapon of choice: Trump is prepared to enact outright bans on a slew of Canadian goods. He also threatened to prevent the US government from buying Canadian-made products through a major federal purchasing program unless Canada gives American companies and farmers greater access to its markets.
