The community leadership of Azunkwo Ndeagbor in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State has revoked the banishment of a 34-year-old mother of six who survived alleged domestic violence, gang rape and mob torture.
The reversal followed legal and advocacy interventions by the Women’s Aid Collective, which has been monitoring the case and advocating for the survivor’s protection and access to justice.
The development was contained in a statement issued by WACOL on Monday and made available to our correspondent.
The survivor and her family were reportedly banished from the community on the orders of the traditional ruler and President-General after the incident was reported to law enforcement authorities.
According to WACOL, the community leadership has now formally withdrawn the banishment order in writing and returned the survivor’s personal belongings, including her mobile phone and water storage tank.
