Four residents of Ezeagu in Enugu State, whose arrests prompted a fundamental rights enforcement suit challenging alleged abuses at military checkpoints across Nigeria's South-East have regained their freedom, human rights lawyer Aloy Ejimakor has announced.
Ejimakor disclosed the development in a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, describing the release as a significant outcome of the legal action filed last month against the Nigerian Army and the Federal Government.
"It’s my pleasure to announce that all the 4 Ezeagu detainees whose arrests prompted the Suit we filed last month have all been RELEASED. Congratulations to them. And kudos to Dr Emeka Offor of AVID & Barr Patrick Agazie who worked very hard to achieve this quick result," Ejimakor wrote.
