Britain is preparing to formally prohibit trade with Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, with Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband expected to lay out the policy in the House of Commons on Tuesday, September 8.
The ban would cover imports, exports, and certain services including financing and advertising connected to settlement activity.
From labeling to banning
The UK has maintained for years that settlements are illegal under international law. For most of that time, the policy amounted to little more than diplomatic language and product labeling requirements.
In June 2026, the UK sanctioned six entities and one individual linked to settler violence in the West Bank. Alongside those sanctions, the government issued strengthened business guidance explicitly discouraging economic engagement with settlements.
