The Benue State Government has made learner insurance a key priority as schools across the 23 Local Government Areas resumed on Monday for the 2026/2027 academic session.
Margaret Adamu, Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, who stated this during a press conference in Makurdi, directed all public and private schools to subscribe to appropriate insurance cover for learners through NICON Insurance as part of efforts to protect pupils and reduce financial burden on parents.
According to the Commissioner, “this session must be different. We expect measurable improvement in all deliverables, starting with the safety and welfare of our learners.”
She added, “the resumption comes with a raft of new policy directives aimed at strengthening discipline, quality and accountability in schools, in line with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s human capital development agenda.”
