The EFF is asking the High Court to overturn Parliament’s decision to rescind advocate Thandazani Griffiths Madonsela’s recommendation as evidence leader.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has launched an urgent application against President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and Parliament's impeachment committee, seeking to overturn the decision to remove Advocate Thandazani Griffiths Madonsela as the committee's recommended chief evidence leader.

According to the notice of motion filed in the Western Cape High Court in Cape Town, the EFF intends to ask the court on September 18, 2026, to hear the matter on an urgent basis.

The respondents cited in the application are National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza, Impeachment Committee Chairperson Makashule Gana, President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Advocate Thuli Madonsela.

The application comes after the Section 89 Impeachment Committee, on September 1, 2026, rescinded its nomination of Advocate Madonsela as chief evidence leader.
