Yannis Economides’ film “Broken Vein” has been selected as Greece’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, the Culture Ministry has announced.
The ministry’s Oscar nomination committee described the 2025 film as narratively, artistically and technically accomplished, saying it reworks motifs of ancient tragedy in a form accessible to international audiences while combining universal themes with a contemporary Greek setting.
The 127-minute film follows a businessman who devises what appears to be a flawless plan to keep his home out of a loan shark’s hands, only to face a series of unforeseen consequences.
Written by Economides and Vangelis Mourikis, it stars Vassilis Bisbikis, Maria Kehayioglou and Betty Arvaniti.
