The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has approved the appointment of Aminu Atiku as the new Emir and Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi of the Zurmi Emirate Council.
Announcing the appointment, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Mr Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, said the approval followed due consultation and the recommendation of the Kingmakers of the Zurmi Emirate Council, in accordance with the established traditions, customs and relevant laws of the State.
The new monarch ascends the throne as the 21st Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi, succeeding His Royal Highness, Alhaji Bello Suleiman, who passed away on 31 August 2026.
Alhaji Aminu Atiku, who holds the traditional title of Dangaladiman Zurmi, is the eldest son of the 19th Emir of Zurmi, the late Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. He also previously served as Sole Administrator of the Zurmi Local Government Council.
Governor Lawal congratulated the new Emir and urged him to uphold the proud legacy of his predecessors by providing leadership anchored on peace, justice, unity and the welfare of his people.
