Residents of Kuruvinatham village panchayat, accompanied by their wards, on Monday petitioned the Collector, seeking the appointment of a permanent secondary grade teacher at the panchayat union primary school in their village.The petition said the only teacher at the school was on leave without pay since November 2022. With only the headmaster to handle the classes, the quality of education and student strength had declined.The residents said they had submitted petitions twice to the School Education Department and a substitute teacher was deputed from another school. However, the substitute teacher, who was reportedly suffering from health issues, was unable to teach the students properly.The student strength at the school had declined from 38 to 26 due to lack of a permanent teacher. If the situation continued, they too would shift their children to other schools after the quarterly examination, they added and urged the Collector to take steps for appointment of a suitable permanent secondary grade teacher in the interest of the students.In another petition, residents from Ethilappanayakkanpatti near Ettayapuram sought measures to ensure that government buses stopped at the bus stop in the village.The petitions were submitted at the weekly grievance redressal meeting chaired by Collector Vishu Mahajan.
