The residents of Malliamman Durgham, a remote hamlet in Kadambur Hills, have appealed to the State government to provide road connectivity and electricity to their village, where over 80 families have been living without basic amenities for generations.In a petition submitted recently to Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management K.A. Sengottaiyan at Gobichettipalayam, the residents said the hamlet had no proper road connectivity. They had to travel through a forest along a mud road, which had been severely damaged by rain. The lack of a motorable road had made it difficult to take ailing persons and the elderly to hospitals, particularly during emergencies at night, they said.The residents also said the hamlet had no electricity connection, and the households continued to depend on kerosene lamps for lighting after sunset.Several families had moved to Kadambur and other places due to the lack of basic amenities, particularly in search of better educational opportunities for their children and employment, the petition said. The residents urged the government to provide pucca road and electricity connection to the hamlet, saying the facilities would improve their living conditions and enable them to remain in their village.S. Subramanian, a resident, said that according to the Fort St. George Gazette dated July 13, 1920, there was a right-of-way footpath from Kembanaickenpalayam to the hamlet through the reserve forest. He urged the authorities to lay a road along the existing pathway. Mr. Sengottaiyan forwarded the petition to the District Collector for necessary action, the residents said.
