Stefanos Tsitsipas was knocked out of the 2026 US Open on Sunday, losing to eighth-seeded American Ben Shelton 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Shelton will face Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.
The 28-year-old Tsitsipas, who has been enjoying a resurgence this season, had reached the fourth round of the US Open for the first time in his career.
His defeat also ended a historic streak in men’s tennis. For the first time since Grand Slam tennis began in 1877, no player with a one-handed backhand will reach a major semifinal in a calendar year.
