HMNB Clyde, better known as Faslane, is home to the submarines that carry the Trident weapons system, the nation’s nuclear deterrent.

The huge naval base is just five miles along the road from Helensburgh, a town containing around 15,000 people, including military families and retired personnel. Anti-nuclear campaigners argue that Faslane makes this part of Scotland – just 25 miles from Glasgow – a target for attacks.
