Frustrated Durban residents have braved the cold and wet weather to queue outside the Jelf Taylor Crescent municipal offices for a turn to purchase their prepaid electricity tokens as the municipality works on the technical problem that has affected customers since Sunday.

Work is continuing to restore eThekwini Municipality’s external prepaid electricity vending system following a technical challenge.

On Sunday, the City confirmed that it was experiencing technical difficulties with its external prepaid vending system due to a technical interruption.

At the time, the City issued a statement explaining that customers were unable to purchase prepaid electricity tokens via banking applications, retail outlets, or third-party mobile vending platforms.

"Investigations have identified the cause as an internet service provider connectivity fault affecting third-party vending channels," it said.
