eThekwini residents were unable to buy prepaid electricity tokens through banking apps, retailers and mobile vending platforms after a connectivity fault disrupted the municipality’s external vending system on Sunday.
The disruption came as temperatures dropped across Durban, leaving households in the dark.
In a statement, the eThekwini Municipality said customers were unable to purchase prepaid electricity tokens through banking applications, retail outlets or mobile vending machines.
“The city’s electricity and energy directorate informed the public that it is currently encountering technical difficulties with its external prepaid vending system due to technical interruption,” the statement read.
It said investigations had identified the problem as an internet service provider connectivity fault affecting third-party vending channels.
