In its efforts to provide succour to the less privileged and vulnerable groups in the state, the Ondo State Government has released the sum of N18 million for vulnerable widows in three local government areas of the state under the second phase of the O’Datiwa Widows’ Care Initiative.
Seun Osamaye, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, who spoke during the launch of the second phase of the programme in Oka-Akoko, in Akoko South-West Local Government Area, where over 500 widows across the 15 wards of the council were provided with free medical checks, free drugs and financial assistance said the initiative was designed by the governor to support widows and enhance their welfare amid prevailing economic challenges.
According to her, “some of these women have lost their husbands, and the initiative is aimed at showing empathy on the part of the State Government by supporting them, especially considering the challenges of taking care of their children and families alone. As a government, we need to identify with them and build their resilience. That is what the Widows’ Care Programme is all about.”
Osamaye, who described the O’Datiwa Widows Care Initiative as a strong testament to the governor’s love and care for the less privileged in the State said; “the governor has identified this vulnerable group who, as a result of the death of their spouses, are facing several hardships.
