Motorists plying the busy Onitsha-Owerri Road in Anambra State have decried what they describe as a “double tragedy” with deep, dangerous potholes on one hand and heavy fines for allegedly driving against traffic on the other hand.
The motorists accused the Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) of focusing on enforcement and fines rather than addressing the road condition that, according to them, is forcing some drivers into the opposite lane.
They appealed to the Federal and State Governments for immediate solution to reduce the sufferings of motorists plying the road.
BusinessDay survey recalled that the Onitsha-Owerri Road had been a major bad spot in Anambra State which had also caused many accidents and deaths in the past and present.
The potholes have caused motorists to drive against traffic, an offence which ARTMA officials are cashing in to extort huge sums of money from offenders.
