Volkswagen is exploring body-on-frame pickup trucks and rugged SUVs as part of a dedicated North American strategy.

Scout Motors is developing the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup on a body-on-frame platform, targeting 2028 production.

Volkswagen has not sold a pickup in the United States since 1984, but the brand now says it is formally studying one again as part of a wider North American reset unveiled September 3.

Volkswagen says it will look at body-on-frame SUVs and pickups in what it calls the "body-on-frame B-segment," a label normally used for small cars, without clarifying how big these trucks or SUVs might be.
