Having made two costly errors in the previous Test in Cape Town, Cameron Hanekom knew he could not afford to be overeager when he returned to the field for the Springboks in the third Test against the All Blacks at FNB Stadium this past weekend.
The loose forward was determined to strike the right balance when he came on as a replacement, particularly in an intense final 20 minutes, as the Boks held on for a 29-24 victory in front of almost 86 000 supporters.
The Ceres-born loose forward made a telling contribution with his carries and turnovers off the replacement bench and helped the team claim a 2-1 lead in Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry with one more Test to go in Baltimore, USA this Saturday.
“Looking back to the last game, I made two silly errors, and I knew that if I came onto the field (at FNB Stadium) that I can't afford that again, especially in crunch time in the last 20,” Hanekom said.
