Two members of Liverpool’s recruitment department have followed Richard Hughes to Al Hilal.Mark Burchill and Craig McKee, who joined Liverpool from Bournemouth with Hughes two years ago, have gone with the sporting director to the Saudi Pro League club.Liverpool announced Hughes’ departure on Saturday, with The Athletic reporting that he was expected to join former colleague Simon Francis at Al Hilal.The 47-year-old worked for two-and-a-half years at Anfield and completed his duties by guiding the club through the recent summer transfer window.Burchill was Bournemouth’s chief scout before joining Liverpool in a similar role in March 2024, as part of the revamp of the Merseyside club’s recruitment team. McKee named Liverpool’s head of scouting operations, having previously been Bournemouth’s recruitment coordinator.The Athletic has reported that Liverpool were expected to look at internal candidates for Hughes’ replacement, with Julian Ward, technical director of Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the conglomerate that owns a majority share of Liverpool, among the contenders, as well as current assistant sporting director, David Woodfine, and FSG’s director of football development Pedro Marques.
