Hughes arrived at Liverpool in June 2024 after leaving Bournemouth, inheriting a club in transition. His most consequential early decision was arguably the hiring of manager Arne Slot. That bet paid off spectacularly: Liverpool secured their 20th Premier League title during the 2024-25 campaign.
The 2025-26 season proved far more challenging, with critics pointing to issues around squad balance and depth.
