The uneven surface of First Main Road in Gajalakshmi Nagar, Chromepet, makes commuting difficult for students and other road users.

While bad roads and sewage-mixed water on roads have been reported from Chromepet on several occasions, a cluster of civic issues around a major educational institution in the locality has caused concern among students, parents and residents.Smt. Ramkuwar Devi Fomra Vivekananda Vidyalaya, popularly known as SRDF Vivekananda Vidyalaya, caters to more than 3,000 students at four locations in and around Gajalakshmi Nagar.The First Main Road in Gajalakshmi Nagar, under Ward 36 of the Tambaram Corporation, which leads to the rear entrance of the main school building, is riddled with potholes, crater-like pits and uneven patches. Students who cycle to school find it difficult to negotiate the stretch.“My legs got twisted once when I pedalled on the stretch,” said V. Rohan Malolan, a class XII student. MTC buses and tipper lorries also use the road to connect the northern and southern parts of the neighbourhood, adding to the concern over the condition of the road.
