Residents of Mummoorthy Nagar Second Street and parts of New Colony in Chromepet continue to grapple with sewage mixing in stormwater drains (SWDs), raising concerns over public health and the effectiveness of the drainage system in the area.
Officials said SWDs were laid in these localities to address frequent inundation caused by excess water discharge from the TB Sanatorium area.

However, according to social activist V. Santhanam, the original drainage design has been altered over the years.
Excess rainwater from GST Road near the Ramanjaneya Temple was earlier routed through a culvert beneath the railway line near Tambaram Sanatorium on the eastern side towards the Chitlapakkam lake.
