To broaden localisation efforts, along with industrial partnerships in India, Brazil-based aerospace major Embraer is accelerating its India supply chain expansion across commercial as well as defence aviation segments, a senior company official told businessline.Accordingly, the aerospace major, said Sankalp Shrivastava, Country Head and Director, Embraer Defence & Security India, has been actively developing its India supply chain over the past three to four years through “exploratory visits, supplier assessments and engagement with government stakeholders”.In recent past, Embraer has evaluated capabilities across aerostructures assembly, machining, metal forming, composites, wiring systems, as well as hardware and software development. As part of this effort, Embraer recently signed an MoU with Hindalco Industries to explore opportunities in aerospace-grade aluminium raw material manufacturing.Besides, Mahindra has become an Embraer supplier through its partnership with Spain-based Aernnova. Embraer and Bharat Forge Ltd have also signed a contract for the supply of forged raw materials.Speaking to businessline, Shrivastava cited that Bharat Forge will support Embraer’s global supply chain with forged products and help create scale for critical structural components.“In a larger perspective, our Make in India vision spans both the commercial and defence segments, and is anchored in industrial localisation, technology cooperation and product development and certification,” said Shrivastava.He added that Embraer, along with Mahindra, is also analysing India’s defence and aerospace supply chain ecosystem in relation to localisation requirements under the Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020, and potential future requirements under the Medium Transport Aircraft programme.adani dealOn the commercial aviation side, Embraer earlier this year announced a strategic partnership with Adani Defence & Aerospace to establish a final assembly line for the E175 aircraft in India.Notably, Shrivastava pointed out that the partnership extends beyond aircraft manufacturing and includes supply chain development, maintenance, repair and overhaul services, aftermarket support and pilot training infrastructure.“Both companies are working together to progress all aspects of the MoU, including opportunities in aircraft manufacturing, supply chain development, aftermarket services, pilot training and the order pipeline required to sustain a final assembly line,” he said.Beyond manufacturing, Embraer plans to strengthen its maintenance ecosystem in India. According to Shrivastava, if the C390 aircraft is selected under the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft programme, Embraer plans to establish a maintenance, repair and overhaul hub in India via partnership with Mahindra.The proposed facility will support base and heavy maintenance, structural inspections and testing, component repair and overhaul, avionics support and training services.service partnershipsAt present, Embraer has service partnerships with Air Works and Indamer for maintenance support covering commercial, defence and executive jet operations in India, including aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force.In addition, Shrivastava said Embraer expects India-based micro, small and medium enterprises and Tier-1 suppliers to play a larger role in its localisation plans.The company, he said, aims to integrate Indian suppliers into its global aerospace supply chain while supporting technology and capability development in the country. Additionally, Embraer is exploring opportunities in engineering and digital transformation as part of its broader industrialisation plans in India.“Engineering and digital transformation are fundamental strengths of India’s aerospace ecosystem,” said Shrivastava, adding that the company is evaluating partnerships leveraging India’s engineering and innovation capabilities across civil and defence aerospace segments.Published on September 6, 2026
