Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer is pitching strongly to win the tender for the Indian military's transport aircraft in which Embraer's C-390 Millennium is the contender.The ⁠Request For Proposal (RFP) for the military transport aircraft can be issued this year, ET has learnt. Embraer has been seeking to boost global sales of ⁠the C-390, and sees India as a strategic market, according to a source in the Embraer.The C-390 is competing against the Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules. Also read: India has 12 deployed nuclear warheads in strategic shift: SIPRIEmbraer has partnered with Mahindra Group to manufacture the C-390 and establish local Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities in India if the aircraft is selected by the IAF.Besides Embraer and Adani Defence & Aerospace have formed a strategic partnership to establish a manufacturing ecosystem in India.This January Adani Defence & Aerospace, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop an integrated regional transport aircraft ecosystem in India. The companies aim to collaborate on opportunities in aircraft manufacturing, supply chain, aftermarket services, and pilot training.The collaborative industrial partnership will aim to establish an assembly line, followed by a phased increase in indigenization to advance India’s Regional Transport Aircraft (RTA) program, in alignment with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the UDAN regional connectivity vision.The project features a proposed Final Assembly Line (FAL) for the E175 regional jet. The production and assembly ecosystem is planned for the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) in Gujarat. Embraer aims to secure firm orders for over 200 aircraft to officially launch the assembly line.This potential partnership will leverage Embraer’s deep engineering and aircraft manufacturing expertise alongside Adani’s aviation value-chain footprint that includes airport infrastructure, aerospace manufacturing, MRO services and pilot training, according to persons familiar with the issue.Also read: India to invest ₹13K-cr in dual use airport at Great Nicobar IslandEmbraer has a growing footprint and long history in India, with nearly 50 Embraer aircraft and 11 aircraft types currently operating across commercial, defense and business aviation. Embraer aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force include the Legacy 600 aircraft and the ‘Netra’ AEW&C aircraft based on the Embraer ERJ145 platform, meanwhile Star Air operates a fleet of 13 E175 and ERJ145 aircraft.Meanwhile, Embraer’s eVTOL spin-off is exploring urban air mobility in India. Eve is working with JetSetGo to implement Vector, an Urban Air Traffic Management software, and has partnered with Hunch Mobility to study electric commuter flights in Bangalore.
