Antonio Giovinazzi put Ferrari on pole for the World Endurance Championship’s Lone Star Le Mans in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, repeating his 2024 pole at the circuit and beating Cadillac’s Jack Aitken by just about nothing at all.Giovinazzi’s 1:52.445 in the No. 51 Ferrari was matched to the thousandth by Aitken in the No. 38 Cadillac. The Italian keeps pole because he set the time first. It’s Giovinazzi’s second Hyperpole of 2026 after Imola, making him the season’s first repeat polesitter.The dead heat is only the second in WEC qualifying history and the first under the single-lap format.“I would say it was luck a bit,” Giovinazzi said. “But when everything is together, there can also be some luck there.”He added, “It was not easy to drive the car, so I did not do a perfect lap, but it was enough to put the car on pole.”Ferrari won at COTA in 2024, but arrived third in the standings on 88 points, the No. 51 trio fourth in the drivers’ table on 57 after finishing second at São Paulo.Toyota came in leading the manufacturers’ standings on 132 points with BMW five behind on 127. Neither had a clean Saturday. BMW’s challenge ended in the first segment, where Dries Vanthoor was 11th in the No. 15 and Sheldon van der Linde 13th in the No. 20. Robin Frijns and René Rast will start Sunday’s race from 13th on the grid.Ferrari had signaled its pace in the opening segment, where Nicklas Nielsen put the sister No. 50 on top with a lap of 1:52.020 and Giovinazzi slotted the No. 51 third.
