Will Stevens led Cadillac to a 1-2 finish in qualifying for the World Endurance Championship’s 6 Hours of Sao Paulo on Saturday, pipping Jack Aitken to pole position at Interlagos. One year on from helping Cadillac score its sole WEC Hypercar victory to date at the same circuit, Stevens pulled out a last-gasp effort in the top-10 shootout — known as Hyperpole — and grab pole at Interlagos. After topping the first stage of qualifying, Aitken had looked bound for pole position after laying down an impressive marker in Hyperpole, only for Stevens to go 0.048 seconds with his final lap of 1m23.041s.The result marked a continuation of Cadillac’s recent good form in WEC, having contended for victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last month, where it also provisionally scored pole position before losing it to a penalty.Stevens will be joined in the #12 Cadillac V-Series.R car by Norman Nato tomorrow, splitting duties across the six-hour race.“To piece every corner together, it’s very tricky,” Stevens said after qualifying. “We knew it would come towards us to the end of the session, but I managed to piece together a pretty decent lap at the end. Very happy, good starting position, hopefully we can stay there for tomorrow.”Victor Martins took third place in Hypercar qualifying for Alpine, falling a mere 0.067 seconds off the pole position time, while Dries Vanthoor finished as the lead BMW driver in fourth place. The top four cars were covered by less than one-tenths of a second.Charles Milesi took fifth in the #35 Alpine A424 ahead of Genesis driver Mathieu Jaminet, who will be subject to a post-qualifying investigation, with Ferrari’s Antonio Fuoco and Peugeot’s Malthe Jakobsen filling out the fourth row of the grid in seventh and eighth place respectively.Aston Martin’s Harry Tincknell ended qualifying in ninth place in the #007 Aston Martin Valkyrie, falling down the order after being one of the first drivers to go for a proper push lap in Hyperpole. AF Corse’s Robert Kubica rounded out the top 10 in the #83 Ferrari 499P.Despite lapping just 0.350s off the fastest time in the first stage of Hypercar qualifying, Ferrari’s Antonio Giovinazzi was eliminated in 11th place, finishing ahead of home favorite Pipo Derani in the #17 Genesis and Peugeot’s Paul di Resta.Following its victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last month, Toyota was the only manufacturer which failed to get either of its cars through to Hyperpole. #8 Toyota TS010 Hybrid, driven by Ryo Hirakawa in the first stage of qualifying, finished 14th, two places in front of Kamui Kobayashi in the Le Mans-winning #7 Toyota. The Toyotas were split by Marco Sørensen, who finished 15th in the #007 Aston Martin as Sheldon van Der Linde propped up the Hypercar timesheets in 17th position. In the GT3 session, Heart of Racing Team followed its class pole position at Le Mans for its #27 Aston Martin Vantage by again topping qualifying, this time with the sister #23 entry. After co-driver Gray Newell got the #27 Aston Martin through to Hyperpole in fourth place, Belgium’s Kobe Pauwells put in two laps good enough for pole position in the final shootout.Pauwells, who is deputising for Eduardo Barrichello this weekend in the #23 Aston Martin, set a fastest lap time of 1m33.350s to take top spot by 0.199 seconds from Iron Lynx’s Lin Hodenius in the #79 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo. Hodenius narrowly failed to improve his best time on his penultimate flying lap, before a track limits breach spoiled his final effort.Clemens Schmid took third on the grid for Akkodis ASP Team in the #87 Lexus RC F GT3, finishing a further two-tenths of a second off Pauwells’ pole time. Schmid edged out Parker Thompson in Team WRT’s #69 BMW M4 GT3 Evo by 0.002 seconds in Hyperpole, leaving the Canadian driver in fourth place. The 6 Hours of Sao Paulo begins at 11:30 a.m. local time (10:30 a.m. ET) on Sunday.Jul 11, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
