The total cryptocurrency market capitalization grew by $14 billion in less than 24 hours, a move that, in most asset classes, would warrant breaking-news banners and analyst hot takes. In crypto, it barely registers as a warm-up stretch.

The gain nudges the overall market cap closer to $2.83 trillion. Daily fluctuations have been averaging around 0.8%, meaning a $14 billion bump is essentially the market clearing its throat.

A $14B move in a market built on bigger swings

On September 3, the crypto market surged by $112 billion in a single session, pushing the total market cap to $2.7 trillion as Bitcoin climbed above $81,000. Throughout 2025 and into 2026, 24-hour market cap swings in the range of $50 billion to $170 billion have been common during significant rebounds.

Bitcoin continues to trade above $81,000. Bitcoin dominance currently sits between 57% and 59%, suggesting altcoins are meaningfully participating in rallies rather than simply tagging along as Bitcoin’s shadow.
