IndiGo will launch flights to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in November, expanding its presence in the African market.Dar es Salaam will be its second destination in continental Africa and fourth overall, including Mauritius and Seychelles.The Indian High Commission in Tanzania, in a recent post, said IndiGo will start daily flights from Mumbai in November. This followed the meeting between airline executives and High Commissioner Bishwadip Dey.IndiGo has not made a formal announcement about the launch. Currently, Air Tanzania operates flights between Dar es Salaam and Mumbai using a Boeing 787.India and Tanzania share a strategic partnership anchored in people-to-people and commercial ties. Defence co-operation is also growing between the countries.IndiGo’s push in East Africa is part of its move to launch new routes and grow its presence in existing markets with high growth. It is also adding flights between Mumbai and Hanoi, Vietnam, from October 25 to tap into leisure travel demand.There have been other network tweaks too. It is pulling out of the Chennai-Reunion route from October. It is also returning its six damp-leased Boeing 787 planes and suspending flights to London Heathrow.Abhijit DasGupta, senior vice president (network planning and revenue management), told businessline earlier that IndiGo will pursue both new routes and higher frequencies depending upon where customer demand and network opportunities are the strongest.DasGupta also said IndiGo sees opportunities to strengthen links between emerging commercial centres, tourism hubs and underserved markets.Published on September 5, 2026
