Enzo Fernandez has officially touched down at Manchester City, completing one of the most expensive transfers in football history. The Argentine midfielder’s £125 million ($169 million) move from Chelsea was finalized on September 1, 2026, capping weeks of negotiations that tested the patience of both clubs and their fanbases.
The fee ties the British transfer record set by Liverpool’s signing of Alexander Isak in 2025. More notably, it makes Fernandez the first player ever to be sold for more than £100 million on two separate occasions.

Fernandez’s arrival pushes Manchester City’s total summer spending to a staggering £458 million, a Premier League record for a single transfer window.
City had already signed Elliot Anderson for £116 million and Ayyoub Bouaddi for £86 million earlier in the window. The Fernandez deal brings their midfield investment alone to £327 million.
