As the need for geriatric care continues to grow, building capability, collaboration and continuum of care will be critical to meeting the healthcare needs of elderly population, said Lakshmipathy Ramesh, founder and managing director, Geri Care Health Services, in Coimbatore recently.A two-day geriatrics conclave and the third edition of Asia Pacific Geriatric Oncology Society (AGOS) held in Coimbatore last month by Geri Care Foundation and the Indian Academy of Geriatrics brought together over 200 clinicians, including geriatricians, oncologists, physicians, and postgraduate students from India and abroad to discuss emerging trends, challenges and best practices in geriatrics and geriatric oncology.Themed “From Frailty to Function,” the event included scientific sessions, keynote lectures, panel discussions, and case-based deliberations on frailty management, dementia care, geriatric rehabilitation, palliative care, heart failure in older adults, Parkinson’s rehabilitation, geriatric oncology, artificial intelligence in healthcare, machine learning applications, and emerging technologies for elderly care.The Gero Technology Showcase exhibited emerging products and solutions designed to improve the lives of older adults, spanning age-tech, assistive devices, remote monitoring, fall prevention, telehealth, caregiver support and AI-led innovations.The platform brought startups, established companies, researchers and grassroots innovators directly before the clinicians and experts, creating opportunities for live demonstrations, industry interactions and meaningful collaborations.
