The Department of Cooperation has prepared a provisional list of beneficiaries under the State government’s crop loan waiver scheme in Tiruchi district.Soon after the new government assumed office in May, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had announced the waiver of crop loan availed up to ₹50,000. However, the announcement did not go well among the farmers, and various farmers associations demanded that the State government grant total waiver of crop loan. Taking into account their demands, Mr. Vijay, upon his coalition government’s completion of 100 days in office, announced a full farm loan waiver of up to ₹75,000 for marginal, small, and other farmers recently.As per the announcement made in the State Assembly, the farmers, who had obtained loans in the range of ₹75,000 to ₹1,00,000, will receive a maximum waiver of ₹75,000, and those who had taken loans exceeding ₹1 lakh will be given a maximum waiver of ₹35,000.According to sources, a total of 13.34 lakh farmers will be benefited under the crop loan waiver scheme in the State and it will cost about ₹6,220 crore.Based on the inputs submitted by the Joint Registrars of Cooperative Societies, the Registrar of Cooperative Societies has prepared a region-wise and district-wise list of beneficiaries under the scheme. Along with the names of beneficiaries, availed loans and amount of waiver, the list has been sent to district officials and Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies (PACCS).According to the provisional figure, over 36,000 farmers are expected to benefit in Tiruchi district under the crop loan waiver scheme. The total amount of waiver works out to ₹235 crore.A senior official told The Hindu that a provisional list of beneficiaries had been prepared in the district. Verification and cross-checking of loan details and the amount of waiver was under way. Duplication and multiple entries would be removed. After the verification process, the final list would be sent to the PACCS. The details would be subsequently displayed at the PACCS concerned for the attention of the beneficiaries.
