Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday announced a crop loan waiver for farmers who borrowed from cooperative banks. Under the scheme, marginal farmers will receive a full waiver of crop loans up to ₹50,000, while large farmers will get relief up to ₹5,000.

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday announced a full waiver of cooperative bank crop loans up to ₹50,000 for marginal farmers and up to ₹5,000 for large farmers.Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay announced this after a review meeting held at the Secretariat regarding the waiver of crop loans for farmers.Under the crop loan waiver scheme, 14.22 lakh farmers who availed crop loans from cooperative banks between May 1, 2025 and February 28, 2026, will benefit.The scheme will entail an additional expenditure of ₹2,044 crore for the Tamil Nadu government.This crop loan waiver is expected to greatly benefit farmers seeking new loans for the upcoming cultivation season, according to a release.Published on May 25, 2026
