The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has planned to hold a second meeting with its post-poll alliance partners in Chennai on September 9, a day after the conclusion of the ongoing Budget session of the Assembly, to discuss formalisation of the present arrangement as a political alliance.The first meeting of the TVK’s post-poll partners was held at a private hotel in Chennai on July 1. Barring the two Left parties, top leaders of all other post-poll partners of the TVK, including the Congress, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), held discussions with TVK president and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.During the first round of discussions, it was decided to work on forming a coordination committee to steer the formation, drafting a common minimum programme and deciding on a name for the formation during the second meeting. Against this backdrop, the TVK has planned to host the second meeting with its post-poll partners on September 9. Mr. Vijay is expected to take part in the meeting and hold discussion with the leaders of the post-poll allies. The TVK started reaching out to the leaders of the friendly parties on Friday.TVK general secretary and Minister for Water Resources N. Anand, along with other senior party leaders and Ministers, including Aadhav Arjuna, C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar and Rajmohan, met CPI(M) state secretary P. Shanmugam, CPI state secretary M. Veerapandian and MDMK general secretary Vaiko to extend a formal invitation.Mr. Kumar said it was a courtesy call on Mr. Shanmugam. He said the Ministers also expressed regret over the controversial circulars issued by the Guziliamparai Tahsildar seeking details of CPI and CPI(M) members and by the Higher Education Department on preventing student protests. The Law Minister said the circulars had been issued without the government’s notice.Mr. Veerapandian said the Ministers held a meeting with CPI leaders on the future course of action of the Left parties in Tamil Nadu politics. He said the Left parties had called a joint coordination committee meeting on Saturday and the CPI had called internal party meetings at various levels to decide on the TVK’s invitation. He said his party was firm that it would not be part of the Cabinet.MDMK general secretary Vaiko said his party would take part in the meeting called by the TVK on September 9.
