The U.S. Department of State is advising American citizens against traveling to Uman for the annual pilgrimage to the grave of Rabbi Nachman during Rosh Hashanah.
The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine said this in a statement, Ukrinform reports.
This recommendation is consistent with the State Department's current Travel Advisory for Ukraine which remains Level 4: Do Not Travel.
"Since the war began, Russian airstrikes have struck civilian buildings and critical infrastructure across Ukraine – including in Uman – hitting homes and places of worship, often without warning," the embassy said.
The embassy noted that local authorities have advised that Uman does not have enough air raid shelters to accommodate all anticipated travelers to the pilgrimage. It added that Ukraine remains under martial law, with curfew and movement restrictions that will also affect pilgrims to Uman.
