The special attention paid by Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan to the travails of the people in A. Kondur mandal of NTR district, who were severely affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD), has helped in finding a solution to the decades-old health issue, according to an official release.After coming to power in June 2024, Mr. Pawan Kalyan gave the issue top priority and got ₹49.94 crore sanctioned under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Amarajeevi Jaladhara schemes to ensure the provision of safe drinking water for the residents of 21 gram panchayats and 38 habitations who were struggling with renal ailments, the release said.It was stated that pipelines measuring 130 km were laid and other infrastructure created to supply 55 litres of safe drinking water per head daily to nearly 75,000 people through individual tap connections.People in these villages took the issue to Mr. Pawan Kalyan’s notice before the 2024 elections, and he roped in the Rural Water Supply Department and had the project work completed in two years.The press release said the previous government had failed to initiate even the tendering process or start any work. Because of this negligence, the deadline to mobilise funds under the JJM had expired by March 2024, casting a shadow on the project.The State government immediately released its matching contribution soon after the Central government extended the JJM for four years, paving the way for speedy execution of the project. Now, Krishna River water is sourced from the Ibrahimpatnam NTPC canal, gets purified on-site, and supplied through a 130-km pipeline and 12 overhead tanks.
