Deputy Chief Minister and Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister K. Pawan Kalyan on Saturday performed the bhumi puja for the ₹3,050-crore Amarajeevi Jaladhaara water grid project, aimed at providing safe drinking water to 67.82 lakh people across the Godavari region. The ceremony was held at Peravali in the Nidadavolu Assembly constituency of East Godavari district.
Taken up under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the project will draw water from the Godavari river at the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage, purify it, and supply it to five districts. As many as 23 Assembly constituencies spread over 66 mandals in Eluru, West Godavari, East Godavari, Kakinada, and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema districts will benefit from the scheme.
Union Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries B. Srinivas Varma, Tourism and Culture Minister Kandula Durgesh, Housing Minister Kolusu Pardhasarathy, and several MLAs from the Godavari region attended the event.
