“I remember sitting on the footpath outside The Hindu’s Begumpet office in 1992, to check if my name featured in the UPSC results that were displayed on a notice board there, along with the many aspirants who thronged the place. With a lot of anxiety, I searched for my name. After a anxious search I found I had secured the 147th rank. I was so relieved that I sat there for some time,” Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand said, recalling a cherished moment in his long association with the newspaper.

The DGP lauded the newspaper’s editorial-page articles and in-depth reports, while speaking as chief guest at the celebrations of 50 years of prining in Hyderabad of The Hindu, at the paper’s office here on Thursday. He praised the newspaper for its contribution to informed public discourse and its commitment to accuracy, editorial integrity, and analytical reporting.A former cricketer Mr. Anand said he began reading The Hindu at the age of eight with sports news and has continued to read the newspaper ever since.“You (The Hindu) have always kept pace with change, not only in terms of technology but also in design, without compromising your values,” he said, adding that the newspaper had played a significant role in shaping his personality.He commended The Hindu for its exclusive reports on major incidents that had changed the course of the nation and said its accurate reporting had helped governments in nation-building.
