The African Democratic Congress, Kebbi State chapter, has raised concerns over alleged threats and intimidation reportedly attributed to the chairman of Gwandu Local Government Area, Atiku Kalcha, ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The party alleged that the council chairman warned that residents who went to polling units within Gwandu and refused to vote for the All Progressives Congress candidate could be punished or attacked.
A video which went viral on social media shows the chairman addressing party supporters, “We should get at least one person to stand at each polling unit that will protect our interests.
“Anybody who comes to say anything against the governor should be dealt with. I will bail the person who dealt with the governor’s political opponent if arrested.”
However, in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Deputy Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Musa, the ADC said the allegation should be subjected to an impartial investigation to establish the facts.
