Nvidia is buying artificial intelligence (AI) software platform Hugging Face for close to £10billion.
The deal will cement Nvidia as a central player in the market for open models that users can freely download, run and customise – unlike the closed systems built by OpenAI and Anthropic.
Hugging Face – already a big AI name – is used by over 200,000 firms and allows developers to collaborate, test and share tools.
It hit the headlines in July when it was hacked after OpenAI’s agents went rogue in a test.
The incident shook the world of cybersecurity and underscored worries over the power of AI models.
