ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok all went offline on Thursday in an unusual simultaneous outage affecting three of the leading AI chatbots in the United States.
OpenAI's ChatGPT and Codex coding tool were experiencing elevated error rates, the company said on its status dashboard. Anthropic said its Claude models Opus 4.8 and Opus 5 were still experiencing outages, while other Claude models had recovered to baseline error rates, according to Axios. Grok, the chatbot from Elon Musk's xAI, was also down, with the company acknowledging it was working to address the problem, according to Bloomberg.
