The comment by Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State that he used to make a monthly income of N10m from selling akara and bread to ExxonMobil workers has continued to generate mixed reactions across the state.
“We still have that shop there, and I started selling akara and bread. We were making bread and akara burger. We opened the bread and put akara in it for you,” he said.
“People going to work at ExxonMobil would buy it in the morning, alongside coffee from a coffee shop, and then they would take it every morning,” he added.
He explained that the akara and bread burger became a significant source of his income, generating at least N10m monthly.
Eno spoke during the monthly prayer meeting held at his office in Uyo, the state capital, with attendance drawn from religious leaders, government officials, women and youth groups, as well as business leaders across the state.
