A 54-year-old South African man has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after a substance suspected to be cocaine was found in his luggage.

A 54-year-old South African man thought to be a drug mule has been arrested by police and his luggage seized at the OR Tambo International Airport after a substance thought to be cocaine was found on him.

Police spokesperson Lt Col Amanda van Wyk said: “The arrest follows the operationalisation of intelligence-led information by the police regarding the suspect, who was reportedly en route to Hong Kong, China, when he was intercepted at the airport on Thursday.”

“A search of the suspect and his luggage led to the discovery of the suspected cocaine concealed inside the luggage,” she added.

The exact value and weight of the drugs are yet to be determined.
