Dubai Police have confiscated 13,657 e-scooters this year as part of a crackdown on riders flouting traffic rules.

E-scooters are restricted to 20kph on designated routes, with riders required to be at least 16 years old and hold a valid RTA permit.

Major e-scooter accidents in the UAE nearly doubled in 2025, rising 97 per cent from 61 to 120 cases compared with the previous year.

Some e-scooters have been illegally modified to reach speeds of up to 120kph, prompting authorities to pursue tougher legislation, including holding parents accountable.
